Saturday night was a big night for 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, with the community-supported public radio station coming away with 11 total awards – including the title of 2013's Music Radio Station of the Year (Large Market) – at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Awards Gala in Madison.
88Nine ended up coming away with six first place awards in the Large Market/Music Radio category, including Best Radio Show 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. for Afternoons With Kallao; Best Use of Audio (Non-News) for Remembering Dr. King; Best Public Service Announcement for Food Drive; Best Live On-Site Broadcast Remote for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – Live at Discovery World; and Best Specialty Programming for A Special Evening With The Erotic Adventures of The Static Chicken.
In addition to its first place prizes, 88Nine also earned second place in Best Use of Audio (Non-News) for Delivering the Goods; second place in Best Significant Community Impact for Radio Milwaukee Food Drive; second place in Best Interview for Paul McCartney with Mark Keefe; and third place in Best Promotional Announcement for 88Nine Listener Testimonials.
88Nine also scored third place for Best Use of Social Media in the All Markets category.
