Today, Ward Irish Music Archives, the Milwaukee-based home of the largest public collection of Irish and Irish-American music, launched a new website entirely dedicated to Irish sheet music.
The site serves as a catalog of all of the music in the archive. This adds up to more than 5,000 pieces of Irish and Irish-American themed music that can be browsed, making it currently the largest collection of such music online.
The archive spans from from 1750 to the present day, with the Tin Pan Alley category – a collection of popular music from New York City publishers and songwriters from about 1901 through 1922 – serving as the most prolific era on the website.
Visitors to the Ward Irish Music Archives' site will be able to download low-res copies of non-copyrighted sheet music for free. High-res versions of non-copyrighted music will cost $10. The website's staff can also help with information on Irish and Irish-American sheet music still under copyright.
After its launch, the Archives still plans to continue adding sheet music to the website as it becomes available.
