I follow the Brewers and the Mets – my two teams – and today I found this Metsblog.com round-up of tweets which I post here as a discussion point.

It's no secret that the Mets have chatted about Corey Hart and that the Brewers are interested in Ike Davis. Nor is it a secret that the Mets might be interested in dealing, too, and are eying Norichika Aoki.

But look at this chatter about Braun... (The names in parenthesis are the names of Mets beat writers responsible for the statement preceding it.)

"3:10 pm: The Mets have had internal discussions about Brewers OF Ryan Braun, according to people connected to the team (Cerrone).

"3:00 pm: Braun could become an interesting trade candidate at some point, but the Brewers are not looking to trade him right now, according to good authority (Martino).

"12:05 pm: There is a better chance the Brewers trade Braun than deal OF Norichika Aoki, according to people familiar with the team’s thinking (Cerrone)."

Certainly, none of this is anything concrete, but I'm especially intrigued by SNY's Matthew Cerrone's comment that it's more likely the Brewers would deal Braun than Aoki.

Seems unlikely to me; after all, is Milwaukee really done with Braun?

Surely, the Brewers would want a whole lot more than the woefully slump-y Davis for Braun and the Mets are already experiencing sticker shock, in the words of one tweeter, on the free agent market. They have money to spend, but they don't want to hand it all to one guy. There are too many holes to fill to do that.

Consider, too, a tweet by New York Daily News MLB writer Andy Martino not included in the Metsblog roundup:

"Look up Braun's contract. Does that look like an Alderson type situation to you?"

No, it sure doesn't. But stranger things have happened.

Only time will tell.
