McBob's Pub & Grill
4919 W. North Ave.
(414) 871-5050
In the heart of the Uptown neighborhood, in what oughta be the shadow of the now-demolished Uptown Theater, McBob's is an oasis of Irish hospitality, with great food, a fine bar and a warm welcome.
As I noted last St. Patrick's Day, because Uptown isn't Marquette, Water Street or North Avenue (on the East Side), the crowd at McBob's skews a bit older.
The clientele is a mix of neighborhood regulars and folks who trek in from far and wide because McBob's is that kind of friendly, casual place that makes everyone feel at home.
Menu: There's a wide variety of beer available on tap and in bottles, but it's the Guinness you'll be wanting.
Price: Inexpensive to moderate. The food item on the dinner menu ranges from $3.75 to $13.75. At lunch the upper limit is $10 and at breakfast it's $7.50.
When to go: Anytime, although if you're looking for food the Friday fish fry and a Bloody Mary-fueled Sunday brunch are unbeatable.
Dress: Casual.
Don't miss: St. Patrick's Day. There's fun -- and free food -- from (basically) the crack of dawn over at McBob's.
Parking: There's usually plenty of street parking available.
