Authentically toasting, French style

It makes perfect sense. Bastille Days, which has become one of this country's largest French-themed festivals, will mark its 30th anniversary Thursday with a French toast using real French toast.

More than 3,000 French toast sticks will be distributed at 6:50 p.m. at the main stage in Cathedral Square Park in a joint celebration with 91.7 WMSE-FM, which is also observing a 30th anniversary. The toast is compliments of Food Service, Inc., and the Milwaukee School of Engineering, which holds the WMSE license.

At 9 p.m., runners and walkers will take to the streets for the annual M&I Storm the Bastille jaunt through Downtown and the Historic Third Ward. Runners follow a 5K route while walkers stroll a 2-mile course. Prizes are awarded the first three male and female finishers, but times are not officially recorded.

Too bad you have to hunt for authentic French music. Mostly you get loud generic rock, with a little Cajun thrown in.
