I know it's fashionable for people in this country to kind of slap around the big wedding of William and Kate. I'm not sure what's behind it.
Maybe jealousy that we don't have cool uniforms or crowd jewels in this country. We don't have bowing. The only time we speak in hushed tones is at golf tournaments and in church. We didn't have the Beatles or the Stones. Nobody in this country lives in a castle, except Tiger Woods, Hugh Hefner and the Octomom.
But I'm excited. For a couple of reasons.
First of all, I'm a friend of Prince Charles.
A number of years ago I was vacationing at Rhosneigr on the Isle of Anglesey when the Prince came by to dedicate a nearby bird sanctuary. We shook hands and I snapped a picture of him. He asked me how I liked America. I said fine.
The other reason is that the Royal Family is about as cool as it comes. The day I met Charles, it was about 95 degrees and he was wearing a brown wool suit, white shirt and brown tie. And he wasn't sweating a drop. There is something about that royal blood thing.
But these people really don't do anything and still they live like kings and queens. Heck, they ARE kings and queens and don't really do anything. That is pretty cool.
I will wake at 3 a.m. and watch BBC America for the entire coverage of the event. It's a heck of a lot more exciting than World Cup soccer.
With a history in Milwaukee stretching back decades, Dave tries to bring a unique perspective to his writing, whether it's sports, politics, theater or any other issue.
He's seen Milwaukee grow, suffer pangs of growth, strive for success and has been involved in many efforts to both shape and re-shape the city. He's a happy man, now that he's quit playing golf, and enjoys music, his children and grandchildren and the myriad of sports in this state. He loves great food and hates bullies and people who think they are smarter than everyone else.
This whole Internet thing continues to baffle him, but he's willing to play the game as long as OnMilwaukee.com keeps lending him a helping hand. He is constantly amazed that just a few dedicated people can provide so much news and information to a hungry public.
Despite some opinions to the contrary, Dave likes most stuff. But he is a skeptic who constantly wonders about the world around him. So many questions, so few answers.
