It's time to fire up your creative energy for an opportunity to win a night on the town in Downtown Milwaukee, three months of Time Warner Cable and more simply by coming up with the name of a new vessel that helps clean area rivers and Lake Michigan.

OnMilwaukee.com is proud to sponsor this naming contest that runs through April 14.  It's all about raising awareness of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's (MMSD) new river skimmer.

Have a creative name for our new skimmer?  Just click here to enter.

The boat cleans up thousands of pounds of garbage, tree branches and logs each year, helping create a positive experience for tourists and residents who visit the the shops, restaurants, theaters, hotels and bars located on or near the water around Downtown Milwaukee.

The new skimmer is impressive.  I've been on the old one, and this on uses one-third less fuel and can collect twice as much debris as previous skimmers.  This year, it will operate until mid-November spending one day each week on the Kinnickinnic and Menomonee Rivers and 2-3 days per week on the Milwaukee River.

Summer's almost here, and the Milwaukee River is ready to rock.  You can help keep it clean by entering today. Contestants also can win prizes through a random drawing at a launch party on May 23, at noon at Molly Cool's Seafood Tavern, 1110 Old World 3rd St.

Contest partners include MMSD (whose Twitter account is here), The City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Downtown BID #21, The Milwaukee Riverwalk District, Inc., BID #15, Veolia Water Milwaukee and OnMilwaukee.com.
