Spin Milwaukee opens August 28

I first told you about Spin Milwaukee in May.  Maybe you saw Spin's Los Angeles location on HBO's "Entourage" a few weeks ago.  Yesterday, I heard news that Spin Milwaukee, 233 E. Chicago St., opens August 28.

SPiN (this is the way it's spelled out by the company) is the brainchild of 63 year-old Oscar winning actress Susan Sarandon.  It started in New York and last month opened a second location at L.A.'s Mondrian Hotel. Milwaukee is next, as are planned spinoffs from Austin to Dubai.

Below,  I've posted the full press release I received from Jill Wellskopf, director of marketing and events at Spin Milwaukee.

Milwaukee's Premier Ping-Pong Club, announces its opening August 28th, 2010 at 233 East Chicago Street. The space has been designed by full service architectural firm Engberg Anderson and constructed by Beyer Construction, under the direction of George Beyer and Andy Kilmpel.

The project has kept within project time constraints, even with modifications to increase dining space to accommodate up to 100 diners. The expanded dining space, created at the recommendation of Director of Operations Eric Kaye (formerly of Carnevor), will include a front window eatery, allowing SPiN to be more than a premier ping-pong club, but a dining destination.

The menu, created under Chef Audrey Vandenburgh (formerly of Potawatomi Bingo Casino) will bring simple, beautiful, great food, at an affordable price. SPiN Milwaukee's menu will be perfect to be enjoyed before a hard-core game of ping-pong or while watching and enjoying a drink.

SPiN Milwaukee's urban renewal project, built out of the vacant Reliable Knitting Building, used existing walls and ceiling as a foundation for the project. Green features including waterless urinals, low flo dual flush toilets and automatic facets, high efficiency hand dryers, linen napkins, and LED lightening were chosen for the project. Additional materials throughout the building were selected with a focus on sustainable materials.

SPiN Milwaukee continues to reach national media attention through Susan Sarandon's recent press junket regarding her new ping-pong reality series and Emmy nomination. Sarandon's appearance on Chelsea Lately on Tuesday (07/20) ended with a challenge between the two stars and the statement: "We're going to ping-pong the sh--t out of Milwaukee!"

SPiN Milwaukee is located in the Historic Third Ward at Chicago and Water. The table tennis club holds 13 table tennis courts in its 16,500 square feet of space. Two private rooms are available for events. Annual memberships are available for individuals and families, although membership is not required to enter or play. Members receive benefits including priority reservations, free hour of monthly play, discounted table rentals, discounted event room rentals, and exclusive invitations to members-only events.

$32 an hour to play ping pong.
yeah, this place will last.
well, the ads do promise "high quality" tables, so i guess the balls will bounce better than they would in your home, and nothing goes together better than than the words "chef" and "ping pong" so what do i know?
