Next month, Rebecca Goldberger and Lis Duggan plan to open Cloud Red in the former Village Pub space, 4488 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood.

The lounge and eatery is named after a gathering of red-wing blackbirds – commonly called a "cloud."

"Red-winged blackbirds are an iconic sight in Shorewood. They live in and around us all – and like to hang out in places where we like to hang out – Atwater Beach, Hubbard Park, our backyards," Goldberger wrote in an email.

The business partners took both the name and the concept to create an environment that they hope is a gathering place for humans – like a "cloud" is for blackbirds.

"What we’re most passionate about is making Cloud Red feel like an extension of people’s homes," writes Goldberger. "Somewhere customers can simply be with friends and family. Somewhere they’ll be invited in with a warm smile."

Cloud Red will serve craft beer and cocktails, along with other beverages, and seasonal, homemade food.

"Opening Cloud Red on the site of The Village Pub means we have a legacy to uphold. The Village Pub was an important gathering spot for the people of Shorewood and we’re embracing that legacy in a fresh, new way," she writes.

The exact date of opening is uncertain, but will be sometime in May. Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more details when they become available.
