Rio West Cantina to become Milwaukee Beer Bistro

OnMilwaukee.com reported last week that the Lakefront Brewery was taking over operations for the Friday night fish fry. For 14 years, it was run by Vecchio Entertainment, headed by Russ Davis.

"I would have loved to continue to operate at the brewery. I had some great ideas for changes to the menu," says Davis.

Davis says he will implement these new ideas into his new concept at Rio West Cantina, 2730 N. Humboldt Blvd. The new restaurant will be called Milwaukee Beer Bistro.

Rio West will close on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to undergo remodeling. It will reopen for its annual kids' New Year’s party on New Year’s Eve. The kid-friendly aspects of Rio West Cantina was always a draw for msny local parents – including myself.

The Milwaukee Beer Bistro will have a grand opening on Thursday, Jan.  9. Stay tune to OnMilwaukee.com for more information about this new bar and eatery.

"And we still offer our other great fish frys at Hubbard Park Lodge and the Twisted Fisherman," says Davis.

35966 Rio West Cantina was terrible. I had the unfortunate experience of dining there twice and vowed never to return even though I can see the place from the windows in my home. I hope the new venture is better, though having the bar set so low I can't imagine anyone/thing could do worse.

Hopefully the new place will be better than the last rendition. Rio West was one of the worst dining experiences that I've ever had anywhere. Tacos served on cold corn tortillas that seemed to have been pulled right from the package and never warmed....by a Mexican 'chef', no less. Deplorable and embarrassing....
