The Verduras Tea House & Cafe will open at the end of June or early July in the historic Isabella Ryder building, 181 N. Broadway, in the Third Ward. The build-out process will begin in the next couple of weeks.
Owner Jennifer Nowicki shared her plans with me yesterday for her latest venture.
"I will be offering specialty loose-leaf teas with soups, salads and sandwiches that are vegetarian in the beginning. Later I will serve breakfast options and maybe appetizers," said Nowicki.
Nowicki is a certified tea specialist and hopes to someday become a master tea specialist through the Specialty Tea Institute in New York City. She has been in the natural foods / gourmet industry for about 20 years. She was one of the founders of the Riverwest Co-op when it was a buying club and operated a vegetarian coffeehouse in Green Bay called Kavarna.
Nowicki was also the secretary and a committee member for the Eagle Heights Community Garden in Madison – one of the oldest and largest organic gardens in the country – for seven years.
