Milwaukee Running Festival registration open

Registration for the inaugural Milwaukee Running Festival, which will be held Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, 2015, is now open. The festival will feature the first marathon to be routed entirely through Milwaukee's neighborhoods and landmarks, allowing participants to experience the city in a unique way.

Volunteers, emotion fuel Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

More than 18,000 people will gather on the Milwaukee Lakefront Sunday morning with the goal of raising $1.2 million to support the Komen Fund and breast cancer treatment and research. Their day of mourning, celebration, support and courage is made possible by the roughly 1,000 volunteers who spend about 10 months of the year devoted to the event and the cause.

Cooperation over competition: Girls on the Run

Even on chilly weekends in November, runners have at least a half-dozen 5K races to choose from. Only one of them emphasizes cooperation over competition, and gives all its young participants bib No. 1. The Girls on the Run of Greater Milwaukee, an expanding youth development effort, hosts its first outdoor 5K Turkey Trot on Sunday, Nov. 18, in Greenfield Park.
