Even on chilly weekends in November, runners have at least a half-dozen 5K races to choose from. Only one of them emphasizes cooperation over competition, and gives all its young participants bib No. 1. The Girls on the Run of Greater Milwaukee, an expanding youth development effort, hosts its first outdoor 5K Turkey Trot on Sunday, Nov. 18, in Greenfield Park.

For years, one of my Dad's friends has raved about a Storm the Bastille T-shirt design from the late 1980s that he simply refers to it as the "suspender T-shirt." Until last night, I hadn't seen it. Now that I have, I want it.

The Becky Werner Foundation will observe World Meningitis Day this Saturday with a 5K run/walk April 21 at the lakefront campus of Concordia University Wisconsin.

Exactly one year ago today, I stood at the starting line of the Storm the Bastille 5K run, sweating profusely, wondering what I got myself into. Last night, I was also sweating bullets at the starting line, but not because I wasn't sure if I could finish. This time, my perspiration came from heat and humidity.
