We already knew that a new movie, "Star Trek Beyond," was coming out next summer, but today, a report from announced the anniversary will also bring about a brand new TV series, the first since "Enterprise" went off the air in 2005.

This got me thinking: To what degree does the local media help form the perceptions that create racial profiling through endless crime scene-framed, fragmented disorder coverage? It's easy to blame the jewelry store employees, but what creates the perceptions in the first place? The local media, especially TV, should rethink how they cover crime and disorder.
