Following a season in which the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was ineligible for postseason play, the Horizon League recognized two players off the Panthers squad for helping lead the team to a winning record in the conference. Senior guard Steve McWhorter and junior forward Matt Tiby were named Second Team All-Horizon League.

When you don't have a postseason to play for, you have to play for the regular season games on the schedule. Such is the case for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which begins Horizon League play on Friday having run the gauntlet in the non-conference with games against teams from the "power five" conferences. While the team suffered losses in those games, the team feels it has prepared them for a competitive league season.

Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance, and naming rights for their own Downtown arena, things should have been looking up for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team this year. But academic sanctions took away any chance at postseason basketball, so the team enters the season with a chip on the shoulder and a goal of winning the regular season Horizon League title.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers have rebounded from a single-digit season last year to a 13-9 record heading into this week's Horizon League games, and a big part of the turnaround - and perhaps greater future success - is building a program through the recruitment of transfers.
