Steve Gilbertson has a very specific vision for The Standard, 1754 N. Franklin Pl., the corner bar that he co-owns with Jay Stamates. It has a '50 feel, however, The Standard is not gimmicky. Instead, it's comfortable, affordable and cozy.

One of Riverwest's signature watering holes re-opens this week after being closed for months. River Horse, 701 E. Center St., will be back in business Wednesday with several familiar faces behind the bar, including the bar's previous owner Scott Radtke.

The River Horse, a popular bar on Center Street in the Riverwest neighborhood, is reopening. "We are looking to have it open Dec. 21," said Jay Stamates, who also owns Sabbatic at 700 S. 2nd St., in Walkers Point.
