For three years I've been slowly making my way toward the uncorking of the Piemonte Cinema film event that kicked off last night at Discovery World and concludes tonight with two more films starting at 6:30. We're only halfway there, but I admit I'm a bit stunned already.

Discovery World, 500 W. Harbor Dr., will host Piemonte Cinema this week, a free three-film festival featuring movies from Piemonte, a region in northwestern Italy. The event takes place Thursday, Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

You may already know I'm a passionate promoter of Italy's Piemonte region, where my roots go deep. I'm especially happy when I can combine that with promoting Milwaukee, too. So, for my latest trick, I'm working with others in Italy and Milwaukee to bring Piemonte Cinema, a review of films from Piemonte to Discovery World on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11-12.

Eldina Long and Erica Malan of Italy's Gruppo Teatro Angrogna, from the town of Angrogna in the Val Pellice west of the Piedmontese capital of Turin, were at Festa Italiana last summer to do demonstrations of the classic "cucina povera" soup from their area.
