MILWAUKEE -- Veteran Milwaukee journalist Drew Olson will join OnMilwaukee.com May 1, the company announced today. Olson, a former president of the Baseball Writers Association of America, becomes senior editor/columnist and also will serve as the daily magazine's sports editor.

"Drew's experience, credentials and reputation will help OnMilwaukee.com continue to grow and excel in this competitive media market," said publisher and company co-founder Andy Tarnoff. "His knowledge of the area's sports landscape will immediately bolster our magazine's coverage, and his news judgment will be a great asset."

Olson, 39, spent nearly 20 years at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and its predecessor, the Milwaukee Journal. He spent the last 11 years covering the Milwaukee Brewers and Major League Baseball. Olson also serves as co-host of "The D-List," which airs weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon on Milwaukee's ESPN Radio (1510 AM Days, 1290 AM Nights) and is a regular contributor to the "Bob and Brian Morning Show'' on WHQG-FM (The Hog, 102.9).

"I've been a fan of OnMilwaukee.com virtually since its inception," said Olson, who grew up in Menomonee Falls and is a 1988 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. "I've watched from a distance as the site evolved from scrappy upstart to an indispensable part of the city's online culture and I'm thrilled to join this talented, energetic staff. I look forward to finding innovative new ways to present stories about news, politics, sports and entertainment in an ever-changing media climate.''

Olson joins OnMilwaukee.com at a time when the magazine is reporting record circulation numbers. In March 2006, nearly 1 million readers visited the Web site, now in its eighth year. Those readers accounted for about 6.5 million page views.

OnMilwaukee.com is Milwaukee's only daily magazine and city guide and one of the only independent online magazines in the country. Daily stories, exclusive content, interviews and buzz make OnMilwaukee.com a vital part of readers' daily routine. OnMilwaukee.com is the city's premier information source, featuring Milwaukee's only Weekend Preview, award-winning national columnist Steve Czaban, personal ads, classifieds, movie information and tickets, RSS feeds and an event calendar that is second to none.
