Summerfest picks: Renee Lorenz
With so many options, it's hard not to find something to check out at Summerfest. In fact, sometimes the hardest part is navigating how you're going to fit everything in. Here's my fest roadmap for 2011.
June 29 – It's starting to look like a trend, but nothing's jumping out at me on opening day. I have a friend who's really into Jack's Mannequin though, so I'll be broadening my musical horizons at the U.S. Cellular stage at 10 p.m.
June 30 – I'm not sure I'll make it down in time for Tony Memmel & His Band on the Cascio stage at 3 p.m., but anyone looking for some solid local music should definitely check it out. Either way, I have plans to catch REO Speedwagon at the M&I stage at 9 p.m., and hopefully I'll make it over to the Miller Lite Oasis in time for Better Than Ezra at 10.
July 1 – The '90s saga continues - Third Eye Blind is tonight's go-to band. See them at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard at 10 p.m.
July 2 – Here begins the Summerfest conflict. I have a feeling I'll be firmly planted at the Miller Lite Oasis to see Maroon 5 at 10 p.m., but finding me wandering back and forth between that and Hinder's 10 o'clock time slot at the Summerfest Rock Stage is a definite possibility.
July 3 – I'll be at the Amp reviewing the Kid Rock show at 7 p.m., with fingers crossed that I'll be out in time to see Fuel on the Rock Stage at 10. Blue Oyster Cult - playing the same time at the M&I stage - is tempting, though.
July 5 – Sadly, I won't be free early enough to see 10 Paces, Fire when they play the Cascio stage at 1:30 p.m. today. If I come down later, it'll be to catch My Darkest Days on the Rock Stage at 10.
July 6 – I won't be getting in to see The Black Keys, but I'm more than content with my consolation prize. The plan is to see Sick Puppies on the Rock Stage at 10 p.m., but I may be drifting over to check out Tonic, playing the same time slot over at the U.S. Cellular stage.
July 7 – Finger Eleven. No question. I saw them despite rain and cold a few Summerfests back and it's still the best live show I've ever seen. They play the Rock Stage tonight at 10 p.m.
July 8 – There's always that one day when Summerfest decides to screw me, and this is it. I can catch Gaelic Storm at 5 p.m. at the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse and the Middle Class Rut show on the U.S. Cellular Stage at 8 easy enough, but the 10 p.m. slot is going to be rough. I could stay put for Crash Kings, but I also don't want to miss Dropkick Murphys at the Roadhouse or the Goo Goo Dolls at the Miller Lite Oasis, plus Sevendust plays the same time at the Rock Stage. Needless to say, I'm still working this one out.
July 9 – After the Friday frenzy, I might take today to rest up. I might head back down for the Meat Puppets on the U.S. Cellular Stage at 8 p.m., and possibly Buckcherry's 10 p.m. gig on the Rock Stage if I'm feeling ambitious.
July 10 – I couldn't think of a better way to finish off the Big Gig than with some of my favorite summer tunes. I'll be at the U.S. Cellular stage for AWOLNATION to hopefully catch a live version of my 2011 summer anthem, "Sail," at 8 p.m., followed by 311 to finish things off at the Miller Lite Oasis at 10.
