Social Circle: What festival is missing?
Welcome to a weekly segment called "Social Circle." It's a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.
Milwaukee hosts a lot of summer festivals, from small, neighborhood street happenings to the Big Gig.
However, this week the Social Circle was asked, "What kind of festival is Milwaukee missing? It could be anything: gardening, pizza, attachment parenting, people named Jenny, yoga, hair bands. What kind of festival would rock your world?"
Here's what they said, and add your own festival idea via the Talkback feature.
Robin Barry: "'Happy Days'/ 'Laverne & Shirley' Fest."
Laura Danhauser: "Rollerskating Fest would rock."
Brian Eisold: "Sprite Zero."
Chris Eisold: "Steely Dan Fest!"
Gretchen Fennema: "Ginger Fest."
Jeff Fortin: "Some sort of large-scale BBQ contest and festival like the Big Apple in New York."
Elizabeth Howe: "Um, Beer Fest! Celebrating the beer roots of our great city."
Jason Jacobson: "Scandinavian Fest!"
Jaeson Jrakman: "Hot Fest – nothing but hot, spicy food from all cultures."
Ken Jenkins: "Health/presence/awareness/wellness."
Jennifer Jones: "Well, I personally approve of Jenny Fest."
Jenny Keeran-Hartz: "I agree 'Jennyfest.' Best idea ever!"
Kelly Knoke: "Yoga."
Jodi Londowski: "Popcorn Fest!"
Mary Manke: "Yogawinefest."
Derek Mosley: "Custard Fest."
Sandy Oliver: "Pizza Fest?"
Stephanie Byrnes: "I agree with Scandinavian Fest!"
Renee Scherck-Meyer: "Dead Alewives Fest?"
Dan Schmid: "Dan Fest. Everyone needs to let their inner Dan out once a year."
Monica Thomas: "Some other cities have a Mom Prom. I would totally do that."
Ned White: "Festivus, of course!"
Caitlin Zhenotdel: "How about Revolution Fest? Groups working for social change could have booths, give presentations and concerts (could always hear Tom Morello again!) and, of course, drink beer."
What about British/English Fest? All things British!!!
