Marquette University sophomores Deonte Burton and John Dawson have decided to leave the program and will transfer after the conclusion of the first semester on Dec. 14, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Tuesday afternoon in a statement released by the university.

"We appreciate all that Deonte and John have contributed to the program since our staff arrived in April," Wojciechowski said in the statement. "We will do everything we can to help them make the next step in their respective careers and wish them nothing but the best in the future."

Burton averaged 6.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game through eight games this year. The Milwaukee native averaged 16.1 minutes per game of playing time.

Dawson was not seeing much playing time despite a short bench, and only played in the team’s season-opener over the University of Tennessee at Martin.
