{image1}So, you're ready for some football, but first: What was Mike Sherman's biggest blunder as GM of the Green Bay Packers? Despite his winning record as a head coach, was it Cledius Hunt's contract? The signing of Joe Johnson? His inability to resign Mike McKenzie? B.J. Sander? You complete the list .... Come on, Packers fans, feel free to vent!

E-mail us at soundoff@staff.onmilwaukee.com and if picked, we'll post your response next Sunday. Only submissions that include your full name and where you live will be considered.

Last week's question: Was government responsible for Katrina's devastation?

Statistically, New Orleans has a extremely high population of poor. It certainly was pointed out many times in the news that most of those poor people could not leave, which is why they did head to the Superdome and Convention center. I believe your question to be somewhat slanted. Blaming the citizens is absurd.

These people chose where they wanted to live. They knew they were below sea level ... Even if they didn't have the kit pre-packed, this hurricane did NOT spring up overnight. They saw it coming. They were warned to evacuate. Do I feel sorry that people by the thousands are displaced? Injured? Confused? Wondering where they will sleep tonight? Hell yes, but should "blame" be assigned to anyone over this? Not over the hurricane.

We all need to take some of the blame ... Why didn't the local, state and federal level get them out?

Our federal government was aware of the problems with the levees, but refused to do anything because our so-called leader Bush needed money for his war, which we didn't need and will end up the same as 'Nam.

We must help the victims of this disaster, but under no circumstances should billions of dollars be spent to rebuild the city just to have this happen again. Rebuild on "higher ground."

I believe that the states of Louisana and Mississippi were woefully unrealistic in their planning for such a likely disaster. It is consistent with their "live for today" attitude. When the inevitable occurs, they quickly look for scapegoats like the federal government. It's odd that you hear a lot about "states' rights" in the South but they don't want to take any responsibility for their own security.

How can we, as a country, be able to have relief flown in to a remote area of the world within eight hours, such as after the Tsunami, yet not have a presence in a devastating tragedy within our own country for days? I personally am sick of excuses, press conferences and especially calling our own citizens.

The only things that belongs below sea level are fish and submarines! That city was a disaster-waiting-to-happen and now we will all be paying for it for years to come. Sure, the post-hurricane response was a bit slow. But, the initial response should have been by the local and state authorities, not by the feds, who had not only New Orleans, but also Biloxi and other areas to consider. By the way, Biloxi was hit pretty hard, why aren't we hearing anything about problems there?

Is the government responsible for the most recent hurricaine disaster? I can't say a wholehearted "Yes" because it's impossible for the humanity to create a hurricaine at this point, but I do believe that the government is responsible for what happened AFTER the hurricaine hit.
