My taqueria dream has become reality today as Milwaukee Public Market officials have come to terms on a lease with the owners of Margarita Paradise, a Mexican restaurant at 11112 W. National Ave. in West Allis. Well, it's not a true taqueria. But close.
Owners Amil and Dolce Alarcon and their son Edwardo will bring a scaled down Margarita Paradise concept to the Third Ward. It will take over the space that Kehr's Candies moved from last month.
Public Market offiicals say that the Alarcon family, in addition to its prepared menu items, will offer "some produce, chips, salsa and some other dried goods."

Apparently, all of the readers consider themselves to be experts/authorities on Mexican cuisine. The truth is that Mexican food is as diverse as any cuisine in the world, and unfortunately what passes in the USA for Mexican is tacos, burritos, enchiladas and the ubiquitous chimichanga, which was created in Arizona. Everyone talks about how Mexican food should be cheap because they are used to eating cheap street food in a cheap looking diner and that must be "authentic". Mexico has street food AND haute cuisine, not everyone drinks tequila all day or is dirty and poor or whatever other stereotype that white americans have given the Mexican citizenry. So for all of you so called "experts", I believe that you are all fairly limited in your knowledge of Mexican cuisine and should probably not pass judgement on what these restaurants are serving, because they are just trying to please your cheese and sour cream craving palates.

Margarita Paradise is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city so having it in the Public Market will be great. It certainly is not as authentic as Riviera Maya but it really beats that Alpo-dog-food-like chunky beef stuff you get at LaPerla or LaFuentes. It's not the cheapest food in town, like the good stuff at Cielito Lindo, but then it fits the yuppie-like attitude of the Public Market so I expect Emil will do well there. If they serve their fajitas there, I highly recommend them. I am certain they will have their signature jalapeno carrots with the chips and salsa - this is a must! Good luck Alarcons.

I agree w/ niki, the comments have been a little unfair. MP doesn't have a website yet, so any online menus that may be posted can't be 100% reliable. And we enjoy their margaritas (half lime/half strawberry is a favorite) and food (favs are fajitas, poblano fundido, and some of their sauces... mole & cilantro). We wish them luck at the Market and hopefully they'll sell their spicy carrots to take home!

I went to this place once and it was pretty terrible. Similar to Chi-Chi's...not very authentic. I travel to Mexico for work all the time so yes, I know what authentic Mexican tastes like.

I live in West Allis and I have been here many times and have always had great food and service. The prices are reasonable, it isn't fast food texmex ya know.
