The future may look pretty scary for Netflix, what with every studio small and large now getting into the streaming game – and getting their biggest properties back from Netflix in the process – but ironically enough, the Halloween season looks pretty pleasant and happy for the Big Red Streaming Monolith. Or at least for its customers. 

The streaming service recently announced its new arrivals for the month of October, and as is the norm with Netflix these days, it's the originals that snag most of the attention. But this time, it's not because the outside acquisitions are weak – it's because the originals are legitimately that impressive.

In addition to a new season of the crazy animated comedy "Big Mouth," a new round of the award-winning dramedy "The Kominsky Method," the secretly-made "Breaking Bad" movie sequel "El Camino," a new comedy called "Living with Yourself" starring not one but two Paul Rudds, and the premiere of a new hip-hop competition starring Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and T.I., Netflix will begin its awards season assault with several of its big Oscar plays.

That includes the Eddie Murphy comeback vehicle "Dolemite is My Name," as well as Steven Soderbergh's star-studded Panama Papers movie "The Laundromat," featuring Meryl Streep and Gary Oldman. (Those two may end up in limited Milwaukee theaters as well as Netflix tries to give them some bonus spotlight for Oscar season, so stay tuned.)

The Netflix Originals will get in on the Halloween season as well with "In the Tall Grass," a horror movie about a killer field (... sure) from the short story by Stephen King and Joe Hill, the delayed horror flick "Eli" and the post-apocalypse "Zombieland"-esque horror comedy "Daybreak." Just in case you need a break from the true spine-chilling horrors of puberty and middle school in "Big Mouth."

That alone would be a worthy month of excitement – but even the lineup of outside acquisitions is strong, with a few Halloween selections of their own ("Scream 2," "Sinister 2") to go along with a solid selection of blockbusters ("Bad Boys," "Charlie's Angels," "Men in Black"), awards-worthy classics ("Raging Bull," "Trainspotting") and indie gems ("Free Fire," "Senna"). Oh, and ... 

So good for you, Netflix. The future may suck for you, but at least October won't.
