Today is Election Day in Wisconsin, as voters will head to the polls to participate in the state's fall primaries.

The biggest race on the docket is the battle of Republican gubernatorial candidates. Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker faces off against teacher, business owner and former congressman Mark Neumann.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in the Nov. 2 general election.

If you're heading to the polls today, keep the following in mind:

  • All Wisconsin polling locations are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • If you are voting in a primary race, you may only vote for one party.
  • You do not need to present photo identification at the polling place.

You do not need to pre-register to vote in Wisconsin. You can register on the day of the election at your designated polling place. Prospective voters must fill out a voter registration application (Form EB-131), provide a drivers license number, a state-issued identification card number or provide the last four digits of your social security number along with proof of residence.

Any document used as a proof of residence MUST include:

  • Your current and complete name.
  • Your current and complete residential address.
And must be from one of the following proof of residence document types:
  • A current and valid Wisconsin driver's license.
  • A current and valid Wisconsin identification card.
  • Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
  • Any identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the card holder, but not including a business card.
  • A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.
  • A university, college or technical institute identification or fee card (must include photo).
  • A gas, electric or telephone service statement (utility bill) for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before Election Day.
  • Bank statement.
  • Paycheck.
  • A check or other document issued by a unit of government.
  • A residential lease which is effective for a period that includes Election Day (cannot be used as by first-time WI voters registering by mail).
And remember, this isn't Chicago ... you can only vote once.
