Registration has closed for the 2011 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon after capacity was reached Wednesday.

Registration was up 10.9 percent from a year ago – an increase of 300 runners – bringing the total number of participants for the 2011 race to 3,050.

"Each year, the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon is a premier race for the local long-distance running community and region," said race director Kris Hinrichs. "We're humbled by the tremendous response for 2011 and we look forward to a great race weekend in the fall."

The 31st annual Lakefront Marathon will be held Sunday, Oct. 2.
