There is nothing more noble than being the ones empowered to set the direction for the next generation. That is why I hope WLDB-FM simply changed format this year and didn’t change the heart associated with this community event.

Last week Trending Radio 93.3 announced Ryan Dekker of Brookfield Christian School in Brookfield as the winner of the Trending Radio 93.3 "Teacher of the Year" contest. From May 1 to 18, votes for "Teacher of the Year" were cast online at trendingradio933.com.

"As winner of the competition, Dekker will receive a four night stay at RIU Tequila in Playa del Carmen, Mexico courtesy of Funjet Vacations," the station said in a release. "In addition to the trip to Mexico, Dekker will receive a grand prize package that includes four tickets to a 2015-2016 Milwaukee Admirals hockey game including one Zamboni ride, a $100 gift card to Sentry Foods, a $50 Ame’ trophy from Personalized Awards and Specialties in Mequon."

From October through April, WLDB had a "Teacher of the Month." Each winner was selected from teachers that were nominated at trendingradio933.com. The "Teacher of the Month" recipients received a commemorative plaque from Personalized Awards and Specialties and prizes from the Milwaukee Admirals, Sentry Foods, and The Vein Guys of Wisconsin.

According to the station, Dekker beat out other candidates including Allison Umhoefer (October winner, Franklin High School, Franklin), Julie Reuter (November winner, Horizon Elementary School, Pewaukee), Kelly Saunders (January winner, Nicolet High School, Glendale), and Julie Poetzel (March winner, North Middle School, Menomonee Falls), and Sarah Campbell (April winner, Lincoln Elementary School, Cudahy).

NEW POST: Last week, the trustees of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation have elected Sam Gill as vice president for learning and impact.

Gill will reinforce group’s emphasis on measuring the impact of its work and sharing lessons learned, both from its own grantmaking, field-wide evaluations and other research and study.

"Knight Foundation has a clear commitment to experimenting and taking risks in ways that help people test new ideas and learn from their work. This focus creates fertile terrain for doing and supporting work that results in positive change," Gill said.

The Knight Foundation supports transformational ideas that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster the arts.

NEW SHOW: Fox Newes Channel will debut "The Greg Gutfield Show" at 9 p.m. on May 31.

"The program will be a multi-faceted comedic hour, with parodies on current events, conversation on key issues and signature monologues showcasing Gutfield’s eclectic humor," Fox said in a statement.

SPEAKING OF FOX: Adult Swim and Fox announced that area native Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s "Rick and Morty" will do a crossover opening on "The Simpsons."

If you missed it, you can watch it here:

"This couch gag plays like a full-fledged mini-episode," said "The Simpsons" creator and executive producer Matt Groening. "It's going to be a real treat for fans of The Simpsons, fans of Rick and Morty, and fans of animated belching."

The longest-running scripted show in television history, "The Simpsons" started in 1990 and has been one of the most innovative animated shows in television.

"We are honored and blown away to be a part of The Simpsons," said Rick and Morty co-creator and executive producer Justin Roiland. "If I could go back in time and tell myself that this would happen, I'd be like ‘No way, Jose!’ I simply can't believe it. I think we might all be living in some kind of massive computer simulation to be honest. Look up simulation theory. That would explain how this happened."

Returning this summer on Adult Swim, "Rick and Morty" are back with more sci-fi adventures and family issues, according to the show’s producers.

Media is bombarding us everywhere.

Instead of sheltering his brain from the onslaught, Steve embraces the news stories, entertainment, billboards, blogs, talk shows and everything in between.

The former writer, editor and producer in TV, radio, Web and newspapers, will be talking about what media does in our community and how it shapes who we are and what we do.
