2023 was all about "Barbenheimer" – and that looks like how the cinematic year will conclude as well, judging by the freshly announced Academy Award nominations, revealed bright and early this morning.
Indeed, the seemingly opposite blockbusters "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" cleaned up Oscar nominations like they cleaned up box office this past year, earning eight and 13 nods, respectively, including Best Picture for both. But they won't be the only major nominees vying for little golden men come early March. Martin Scorsese's latest American opus "Killers of the Flower Moon" and Emma Stone's gorgeously zany take on Frankenstein "Poor Things" both scored double-digit nominations as well, while international indie darlings "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Zone of Interest" woke up happy on Tuesday with several major category noms, topped with Best Picture contention.
Will one of the big blockbusters claim Hollywood's top prize? Will Christopher Nolan finally win an Oscar? And will the phrase "Oscar-winning Flamin' Hot Cheetos movie" be a factually accurate statement? We'll find out those answers and more in a month and a half – but for now, here are the esteemed nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
