At this time of year, I like to think about traditions. Each of our households has them, from who we may visit with during the holidays, to the meals we share to the shows we watch on television.

For many, tonight marks the night when youngsters, too young to go out, or those of us who are older, who have no urge to go out, will stay in and watch Dick Clark’s annual presentation of bands and the ball drop from Times Square in New York.

As we ring in 2014, we are in the days beyond Dick Clark himself, but his legacy and production lives on, airing this evening on ABC. "Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2014," is the show title for tonight, where Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy will host the presentation featuring a number of bands in three locations.

From New York, performing are Blondie, Icona Pop and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with Miley Cyrus closing out 2013. We will also hear Billy Joel in a live remote.

From Los Angeles, Fergie will host as Capital Cities, Daughtry, Jason Derulo, Fall Out Boy, Florida Georgia Line, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Thicke and the Fray will perform. And in Miami, we will see Pitbull.

"We like ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ to be a review of the year in music. It’s people who made a great impact on the charts," show producer Barry Adelman told Billboard.

"I started doing this in the late 1980s, and in the early years it was Dick Clark by himself in Times Square with his wife Kari holding the cue cards. With the new millennium, they put live performances in Times Square, and we have had amazing people ever since. Christina (Aguilera), Taylor Swift, this year Miley Cyrus. It has become a real happening."

Other networks have had its own New Year’s Eve traditions throughout the years as well. Tonight will not disappoint the dial jumpers.

NBC: Mariah Carey and country singer – and coach on "The Voice" --  Blake Shelton,  will perform on NBC's "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly." Actress-comedian Natasha Leggero and actor Anthony Anderson will also be appearing as guests on the special co-hosted by "Glee" star Jane Lynch.

Fox: J. Cole, Krewella, New Politics and Panic! at the Disco will perform on Fox’s "New Year’s Eve Live." The special is hosted by Mario Lopez from Las Vegas. Rodney Atkins and Susan Boyle will perform for Fox News on "All American New Year's Eve 2014" hosted by Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

BET: BET will air "106 & Party: New Year's Eve 2013" with Trey Songz, August Alsina, ASAP Rocky and other performers.

Univision:  Univision celebrates with "¡Feliz 2014!" and will feature a musical Performance by El Dasa and Jencarlos Canela from Times Square in New York and other performers throughout the country.

CLOSER TO HOME: If you do decide to go out in the early evening and be home in time to watch the various TV entertainment options, you may want to go to the BMO Harris Bradley Center and participate in a family tradition of your own.

"Sweet Georgia Brown" can flood your head as the Harlem Globetrotters bringing their "Fans Rule" World Tour to Milwaukee. There’s still time to see the 6 p.m. show … ahem … I mean, game.
