The Armoury Gallery continues to shed light on Milwaukee's creative class with the opening of its 8th gallery exhibition tonight. "Night Work" showcases the work of local professional artists working as art professors and instructors in the Milwaukee area.
"Night Work" incorporates 2D, installation and photographic art to highlight the personal passion and private work ethic of several of Milwaukee's top art department instructors. Aptly selecting a cross-section of artists showing at the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University, three of the showing artists are also contributing features of the "Current Tendencies" exhibition.
"Night Work's" artists include UWM lecturer Nicholas Lampert, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design Instructors Shana McCaw, Sonja Thomsen and Brent Budsberg as well as Jessica Meuninck-Ganger and Nathaniel Stern from UWM's Peck School of the Arts.
Lampert, who contributes 2D work to tonight's show, is a part of the Justseeds Art Collective and is the co-editor on a book of anti-war illustrations.
Building on nearly seven years of collaboration, Budsberg and McCaw take over "Night Works" installation space with two companion sculptures. Contrastingly, Sten and Meuninck-Ganger collaborate for the first time on a series of works incorporating new methods of technology with age old practices like Japanese print making.
Finally, Thomsen, who is a founding member of the Coalition of Photographic Arts (CoPA), adds images of her time spent at the Hermitage Artist's Retreat in Englewood, Florida.
