The coronavirus pandemic has changed our everyday life, but it doesn't need to change who we are. So, in addition to our ongoing coverage of the coronavirus, OnMilwaukee will continue to report on cool, fun, inspiring and strange stories from our city and beyond. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay informed and stay joyful. We're all in this together. #InThisTogetherMKE

Like most makers, all of Ryan Laessig's art markets and events have been canceled due to the coronavirus. Laessig runs an alternative art / photograph brand called Milwaukee Alt.

"It has affected my usual income and I am now even moving out of my art studio to save money," says Laessig. "All of my photoshoots for Milwaukee Alt. have also now been canceled due to the pandemic."

So Laessig, who is also a high school educator and the Milwaukee Makers Market's event coordinator, is using his creativity in new ways and currently making new work, including Banksy-inspired spray paint on canvas pieces. "It's expressing imagery during hard times such as war and now viral pandemic," says Laessig.

Laessig grew up in Milwaukee's Garden District where – after numerous moves –  he resides today. He attended college in both Milwaukee and Madison.

"At this point, my mission is to continue to brighten Milwaukee with the sci-fi imagery of the MilRAWkee Alt collaboration," says Laessig.

Check out more of Laessig's artwork and postcards on Etsy. Laessig is also accepting donations.
