{image1}Every October for the past 20 years, the Riverwest Artists' Association organized ArtWalk, a walking tour of the neighborhood showcasing its many galleries, artists and performers.
This year, the popular event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3 from noon to 5 p.m.
Tickets for ArtWalk are $3 for adults, $2 for children and seniors. Tickets are available at the Gordon Park Pavilion, Locust Street and Humboldt Boulevard, Beginning Dreams Forever, 833 E. Burleigh Ave., and the Riverwest Food Co-op, 733 E. Clarke St.
"It's an impressive group of artists this year," says Linda Corbin-Pardee, ArtWalk coordinator, who says they expect 1,500 people to attend the grassroots art stroll.
Highlights this year include an exhibit at the Gordon Park Pavilion of drawings, photographs and other documentation by Melissa Dorn Richards with help from the children at La Escuela Fratney School and Community Learning Center. A hands-on activity takes place from 1 to 3 p.m.
John Ruebartsch, a noteworthy Riverwest photographer, will show his work at Art*Bar, 722 E. Burleigh St. In addition, an exhibition of 21 RAA artist members, including Jill Sebastian and Ron Bitticks, will be on display at Flux Design, 811 E. Vienna Ave.
Snail's Crossing a recently renovated park at 3050 N. Bremen St., will feature many artists selling their artwork and quality crafts during ArtWalk. A workshop and contest for best banner designs will be ongoing at Beginning Dreams Forever, which is across the street from the park and owned by Marina Lee.
ArtWalk 2004 is supported through the generosity of the City of Milwaukee Arts Board, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Milwaukee County Parks System, business and individual members of Riverwest Artists Association and a gift from Art*Bar.
"Because it's a neighborhood with a lot of artists, it's a very supportive environment," says Corbin-Pardee. "(Plus) It's easier, more fun and ideal to be surrounded by others also making art."
Molly Snyder started writing and publishing her work at the age 10, when her community newspaper printed her poem, "The Unicorn.” Since then, she's expanded beyond the subject of mythical creatures and written in many different mediums but, nearest and dearest to her heart, thousands of articles for OnMilwaukee.
Molly is a regular contributor to FOX6 News and numerous radio stations as well as the co-host of "Dandelions: A Podcast For Women.” She's received five Milwaukee Press Club Awards, served as the Pfister Narrator and is the Wisconsin State Fair’s Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Champion of 2019.
