Two Milwaukee clubs with different owners have closed.  But, within the next two months, newly redesigned spaces with emerge in their place.

Aura is the new name for the reincarnated Aqua, 1011 N. Astor St., inside the Comfort Inn and Suites (formerly the Park East Hotel).

Aqua, as described by OnMilwaukee.com food writer Amy Schubert was decorated "somewhere between a maharaja's lair and the cartoon set of "The Little Mermaid," with long flowing white and pastel draperies and colorful polka dots surrounding a water-filled glass bar."  The funky South Beach-like space opened in November 2003, but closed recently for major renovations.

On New Year's Eve, owner Rick Walia will debut his new creation, Aura, with DJs, room specials, complimentary champagne, free food at 1 a.m. and much more.  Few design details have been released but the space is looking well lit, unique and fresh.

In other Milwaukee club news, according to its marquee, 618 Live is "closed for the holidays" and will "relaunch Thursday, Feb. 5th."  There are a few shows scheduled for this weekend but it appears the grand-opening is planned for early February. Ownership could not be reached today so keep checking back as we get more details.
