There's been a lot of hype – and a little concern – around the opening of axe-throwing bars in Milwaukee, and now it's time to check 'em out for yourself.

AXE MKE, an axe-throwing bar on the East Side, will celebrate its grand opening with a party and open house on Saturday, June 16, from noon to midnight. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the event is open to anyone 16 years old or older. The grand opening is sponsored by Lakefront Brewery.

AXE MKE, located at 1924 E. Kenilworth Pl., will feature 12 axe throwing lanes and a full bar. The venue also offers private event options for celebrations and corporate team-building outings.

Reservations are now available online for the grand opening and other slots in June.

All reserved axe throwers will receive food from Beans & Barley and Ian's Pizza – while supplies last – as well as free beer and swag from Lakefront Brewery.

"Lakefront Brewery is the perfect partner for our grand opening," said AXE co-owner David Poytinger. "They are the true axe-perts of the craft beer scene in Milwaukee."

The first 100 people through the doors will also receive a complimentary East Side swag bag filled with local goodies, including a gift card to the indoor mini golf course, Nine Below; a free slice gift card from Ian’s Pizza; a 15 percent off coupon from The Waxwing and more.

Another axe-throwing experience, Fling Milwaukee, will soon open in the Bounce facility in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood.
