They grow up so fast, don't they?

In just one week Bayou Restaurant & Lounge, the Cajun fusion restaurant that sits stoically along the banks of the Milwaukee River at 2060 N. Humboldt Blvd., turns a year old.

To celebrate, the co-owner Jenkins twins are hosting a celebratory champagne brunch on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rob Jenkins tells us there are free champagne cocktails to accompany any brunch entrée.

And that's not all. Bayou's bringing in the music as well. The Midwest Blues Allstars perform from 3 to 6 p.m., during which guests enjoy free hurricane drinks. At 6 p.m. Louisiana man George Stancell & The Wonderful Ones take the stage.

If you haven't been to Bayou yet, this might be a good time to get there -- they're be drink specials and giveaways all day.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
