In our second installment of "Behind the Bulb," we meet Cheryl Blue, executive director of The Corridor.
The area including BID #37 – an 880-acre plot with more than 150 businesses dubbed the "promise zone" – was once a unique industrial hub, home to the country's highest standard of living for black people living in America. But the neighborhood suffered decades of challenges following the exodus of the area's manufacturing companies.
Today, The Corridor works to promote economic development, homeownership, safety and community empowerment.
"We’re either all going to move forward together, or we’re all going to suffer because the revitalization cannot happen only Downtown," said Blue. "We're excited to be taking the lead and creating a new vision for Milwaukee."
Shine on, Milwaukee.
