Season's eatings! The weather may be getting colder, but Dining Month on OnMilwaukee is just cooking up, dishing out your winning picks in this year's Best of Dining poll. The Vanguard

This year’s winner for best bar food is The Vanguard! This bar and restaurant, located in the heart of Bay View, specializes in house-made sausages, ranging from the familiar favorites such as bratwurst with pork, nutmeg, coriander and beer, to the adventurous links, such as the jalapeno cheddar brat and the Jamaican lamb currywurst.

Try some of their vegetarian options such as the vegan Italian and vegan chorizo sausage. Not a fan of the tube-shaped food? Vanguard also offers burgers, with fries and poutine as sides. Try some of their baked potato balls, cheese curds or a soft buttered pretzel, offered as sides. Their brunch menu, served Sundays 11 a.m.-3 p.m., includes chicken and waffles, a diner brat and a selection of four brunch cocktails.

The menu is paired with draft cocktails, micro and craft draft brew and a lengthy bourbon and whiskey list. Taste the special but classic Vanguard old-fashioned or enjoy a Lakefront Riverwest Stein.
