Season's eatings! The weather may be getting colder, but Dining Month on OnMilwaukee is just cooking up, dishing out your winning picks in this year's Best of Dining poll. Dining Month is brought to you by Fein Brothers, your premier food service equipment and supply dealer in Wisconsin since 1929. Congratulations to all of the winners, and happy eating for all those who voted! See all the winners for the month so far here.
Maxie's
We've been adventurous when it comes to Milwaukee's Cajun, Creole, Southern and French restaurants. In 2016, we had French in its own category while Cajun, Creole and Southern/soul food were all bunched in a different one. Then, last year, we mixed things up, giving Southern and soul food its own category while making Cajun, Creole and Milwaukee's few French restaurants all best-of bunkmates.
But no matter the case, the champ is always the same: Maxie's, which again won best Southern/soul food and now best French/Cajun/Creole thanks to its famed low-country cuisine.
Again, however, it was a fairly tight race for the top spot, with less than 100 votes dividing the top three finishers – and only two vote separating second and third place! French food favorites Lake Park Bistro and Le Rêve came up just a bit short in our poll, but never come up short on the plate. (That's why the OnMilwaukee editors picked the latter for their selection.)
Meanwhile, Pastiche and Fauntleroy – Lori's pick for this category this year – rounded out the rest of the top five in the final category of dining month. Now let's eat!
