Screaming Tuna
We officially broadened out the name of the best sushi category this year to formally include ramen in the running ... but the results stayed the same.
For the second straight year, OnMilwaukee readers just can't stop screaming their love for Screaming Tuna – likely thanks to its classic flavors and one-of-a-kind inspired fusions, from its signature rolls to sushi pizza and more. Plus, with its extra outside tables and boat parking during the warm seasons, the Walker's Point joint makes for a great warm weather destination too.
The newly opened up category, however, led to a tighter race than last year, as the slurp-worthy East Side hotspot Red Light Ramen finished hotly behind in second place with less than 50 votes separating it from the top of the podium. The rest of the top five – Fujiyama, Izumi's and Rice N Roll Bistro – all finished within 100 votes of the title, too.
Meanwhile, the OnMilwaukee editors went a different way with their pick, selecting Kawa – whether you check out its original Whitefish Bay location or its brand-new spot on the ramen-rich East Side.
Runners up:
2. Red Light Ramen
3. Fujiyama
4. Izumi's
5. Rice N Roll Bistro
OnMilwaukee editors' pick: Kawa
Lori Fredrich's pick: RuYi
I’ll say it: I’ve had some really bad sushi in this town. But, I’ve also had some really good sushi – and yes, on occasion, even the sort of sushi that comes close to rivalling what I’ve eaten in coastal spots like San Francisco. One of those spots is RuYi, where you’ll find a combination of the freshest of fish, as well as a nice variety of options that you can’t find just anywhere.
