It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee!

Beans & Barley

For the 11th(!) year in a row, Beans & Barley has secured the top spot for in the best vegan/vegetarian category in OnMilwaukee's best of dining poll.

Move over brats and cheese curds: This East Side staple has paved the way for vegetarian and vegan restaurants and cuisine here in Milwaukee, becoming a long-time favorite within – and even outside – the vegetarian community thanks to its fresh flavors and bold veggie-inspired menu.

And no matter your eating preferences, this East Side favorite is serving up tasty choices, from its signature burritos – which can be made dairy-free – to its mouth-watering hot sandwiches, like the grilled portobello and hummus panini or the juicy walnut burger.

Bay View favorite Odd Duck came in a respectable second place, while Casablanca, Strange Town – dining expert Lori Fredrich's pick – and Comet wrapped up the rest of the top five.

Runners-up:
2. Odd Duck
3. Casablanca
4. Strange Town
5. Comet Cafe

Lori Fredrich’s pick: Strange Town

OnMilwaukee editors’ pick: Urban Beets
