For the eighth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Locavore, the newest restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2014."
When it comes to Milwaukee comfort food, it seems our readers love the one with comfort in name (or at least used to).
In a year full of upsets, Maxie's held onto its comfort food crown for yet another year. The cozy Southern food restaurant has held the title since 2010, and even though its name has slightly changed, its menu – a delectable mix of seafood, barbecue, Creole and Cajun favorites old and new – has kept on dishing up scrumptious selections that warm the heart and fill the stomach.
The comfort food category's one shakeup comes in the battle for the silver medal. For years, Comet Cafe has claimed the second place, but in a tight race (less than 20 votes separated the two), perennial bronze medalist Honeypie leaped over Comet and hopped into the top runners-up spot. Comet, however, can comfort itself in knowing it still has the OMC editors' hearts, as they named it their comfort food editors' pick.
Melthouse Bistro and Real Chili round out the top five.
