For the seventh straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2013."
Milwaukee and Wisconsin are fortunate that so many of the food stuffs we consume on a regular basis are home-grown, and we take pride in that. So it’s no wonder that this category received a lot action in the voting, but no product, no matter how sweet or salty, could top the sausage produced by Usinger’s.
The iconic factory at 1030 N. Old World 3rd St. remains family owned and operated and while the decor harkens back to times long passed, the modern upgrades inside have only sustained the unique flavorings first developed in 1880.
About 70 different varieties of sausage are made there, and you can head into the Usinger’s store to pick up the latest links, along with deli meats.
We don’t always agree with the reader’s choices, but in this case it’s hard to top the champ.
