Your votes are in, Milwaukee, and you have selected the winners of OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2011. We're announcing the results of this readers' poll, including our editors' pick, in a series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."
Izumi's, 2150 N. Prospect Ave., has earned a reputation in Milwaukee for friendly, accommodating service, as well as a tasty menu that doesn't break the bank.
While it didn't win last year, OnMilwaukee.com readers have again chosen Izumi's as their favorite Japanese restaurant. Sake Tumi and Fuyiyama almost tied for second and third places.
Izumi's first opened in 1988, the creation of Tatsuya Goto and Fujiko Yamauchi, who worked together at Seigo's Japanese Steak House.
To diners' delight, Izumi's relocated in early 2005 to a significantly more spacious and aesthetically pleasing space, complete with artful, ambient lighting, lengthy sushi bar and enclosed tatami room.
The sake list, featuring hot, cold and room temperature options, is also a big draw here and the knowledgeable staff is often helpful if you don't know what you're getting your taste buds into.
At lunch, order a bento box and get more food than you can eat for under $10.
