Forecasters are calling for somewhere between five and eight inches of snow today, which would be the first major accumulation of the winter.

I say "Bring it on."

It's not that I have discovered the wonders of cross country skiing. It's not that I'm looking forward to a sloppy commute tomorrow morning. It's not that I want to look outside and see the pretty, fluffy white stuff before the salt trucks roll through and make it ugly again.

It's just that I tried to start my snowblower this morning and, unlike the past few years, it started on just a few pulls. No grunting, sweating or swearing was involved.

I realize that celebrating this event is a bit like talking about a no-hitter in the dugout. I probably ensured that my trusty Toro won't work when needed, or that we won't get a monumental snowfall tonight.

If it happens, though, I'll be ready.
