Snowy, slushy streets are not only dangerous for drivers but, in turn, also for those in need of blood donors. Several scheduled blood drives were canceled because of the season’s first measurable snowfall, but the need for blood and platelet donors remains constant.

Every day in Wisconsin, cancer and chemotherapy patients, those in auto accidents and people in need of and recovering from surgery rely on a ready supply of blood provided by volunteer donors.

The Blood Center, provider of blood to 54 hospitals in 26 Wisconsin counties, encourages those who can brave the snow to do so and call 1-877-BE-A-HERO to schedule an appointment to donate.
