One of Wisconsin's biggest music acts will take the stage of the city's biggest music event, as Summerfest announced this morning that Bon Iver will headline the festival on Saturday, June 29.
Born in Eau Claire, Justin Vernon formed the band Bon Iver in 2006, releasing its iconic debut album "For Emma, Forever Ago" the following year, recorded in a isolated cabin up north in Wisconsin.
Six years later, Vernon and company would win two Grammys for Best Alternative New Album for "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" and Best New Artist, becoming household names in music, turning Vernon into a popular collaborator in the industry with hitmakers like Kanye West and the founder of his own music festival, Eaux Claires, since 2015.
Bon Iver last performed in Milwaukee this past February, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of "For Emma, Forever Ago" with a sold-out concert at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The Wisconsin band, however, has never played Summerfest before.
Joining the Grammy-winning artists on the American Family Insurance Amphitheater will be fellow folk rock favorites Lord Huron, the hitmakers behind the popular song "The Night We Met," and Julien Baker, whose two albums, 2015's "Sprained Ankle" and last year's "Turn Out the Lights," were both considered one of the best records of their respective years.
Tickets for the headliner show go on sale on Friday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. online at noon on Ticketmaster and Summerfest's website. Tickets can also be bought in person at the Summerfest box office, Ticketmaster ticket centers and select Walmart stores, as well as by phone at (800) 745-3000 for a live Ticketmaster Agent or (866) 448-7849 for the "Ticketmaster Express" automated phone line. There will also be a special fan presale on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. by signing up or logging on to Bon Iver's website and getting a unique code.
Bon Iver joins Jason Aldean and Ozzy Osbourne as Summerfest headliners. For more Big Gig updates, stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
