Mayor Tom Barrett declared this Friday, July 22, to be "Bon Iver Day" in Milwaukee. Tom Gartner, Assistant City Attorney, will hand deliver the proclamation on stage to Justin Vernon – aka Bon Iver. The mayor chose Gartner to deliver the message because he is Vernon's godfather.

Bon Iver will play two sold-out shows this weekend at The Riverside, one on Friday night and one on on Saturday. (I will be tweeting from the Friday night show.) The shows kick off his international summer tour in support of his latest self-titled album.

Vernon was born, raised and still lives near Eau Claire.

"Bon Iver's music embraces Justin Vernon's Wisconsin heritage, as he has become an international ambassador for both Milwaukee and Wisconsin while they travel across the world playing music and interact with national media," reads Barrett's press release.
