Milwaukee was lucky enough to host Brazzaville's David Brown twice last year; first in April at the Cactus Club without his band (and backed by a few local musicians) and then again with the Brazzaville team at a slightly chilly Bay View Bash in September.

This week the Milwaukee-based Bus Stop Label, which releases the band's latest, "21st Century Girl," brings Brazzaville back to Brew City for a series of shows.

The members will be in attendance at the "21st Century Girl" listening party, set for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at Sugar Maple, 411 E. Lincoln Ave.

On Thursday they head down to Bastille Days to play for fest-goers from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Brown caps off his Milwaukee experience on Sunday, July 13 with a show at the Cactus Club with John the Savage.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
