So what happens when the owner of the Red Circle Inn takes over the food service of one the state's best public golf courses? The answer is above-par food and service right next to the links. The Pines of Bristlecone is nestled next to the 18th green of Hartland's stunning Bristlecone Pines, and this classy, yet casual restaurant is worth the half-hour drive from Milwaukee. Huge picture windows overlook the course and the massive overachiever homes that make up ChimuraLand. Inside it's a nice blend of handsome woodwork, linen tablecloths and candlelight all setting the mood for some first-rate food.

Chef R.C. Schroeder has worked his way through a number of area kitchens and brings a deft hand at putting good things on the plate. Appetizers include pistachio-crusted seafood and seafood cakes with orange beurre blanc and a salmon Napoleon with brie and chive oil. Main events include whiskey barbecued tiger shrimp, grilled Atlantic salmon with Yukon gold potato hash, and a fork tender osso bucco with saffron risotto.

Golfers, business types and people who can afford the payments on the institution-sized homes in the neighborhood. And yes, you can see "his" house from the window.

Moderate to expensive.

Full bar and nice wine selection.
