As part of the Bucks’ announcement Tuesday at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena that they will host the Boston Celtics on Oct. 26 for the "Return to the MECCA" game, the team also unveiled its Classic Edition uniform for the 2017-18 season.

The new-but-retro Nike jersey, a modern take on Milwaukee’s original uniform from 1968, will be worn on select dates throughout the season and is a fitting choice for the franchise’s celebratory 50th anniversary.

On Tuesday, Jon McGlocklin, longtime team broadcaster and "The Original Buck," spoke about the franchise embracing its rich history – Milwaukee won its only NBA Championship in 1971 and compiled a 582-209 home record with 16 playoff appearances in 20 seasons at the MECCA – while not living in the past and continuing to own the future. The Classic Edition uniform is a nod to the team’s early-era success, and McGlocklin said he believed older-generation fans would appreciate that recognition of the past.

Jabari Parker, who was present for the announcement, said he liked the uniform – especially the vintage colors – and that it reminded him a bit of his rookie year in 2014-15, before the Bucks redesigned their jerseys. "I’m looking forward to wearing it a few times this season," he said. We can bet Milwaukee rookie forward D.J. Wilson, renowned wearer of the old-school short shorts, is looking forward to rocking the throwbacks too.

While the unassuming Parker was typically understated, Bucks fans on Twitter had some more animated opinions on the Classic Edition uniform. Here is some of that reaction:

Born in Milwaukee but a product of Shorewood High School (go ‘Hounds!) and Northwestern University (go ‘Cats!), Jimmy never knew the schoolboy bliss of cheering for a winning football, basketball or baseball team. So he ditched being a fan in order to cover sports professionally - occasionally objectively, always passionately. He's lived in Chicago, New York and Dallas, but now resides again in his beloved Brew City and is an ardent attacker of the notorious Milwaukee Inferiority Complex.

After interning at print publications like Birds and Blooms (official motto: "America's #1 backyard birding and gardening magazine!"), Sports Illustrated (unofficial motto: "Subscribe and save up to 90% off the cover price!") and The Dallas Morning News (a newspaper!), Jimmy worked for web outlets like CBSSports.com, where he was a Packers beat reporter, and FOX Sports Wisconsin, where he managed digital content. He's a proponent and frequent user of em dashes, parenthetical asides, descriptive appositives and, really, anything that makes his sentences longer and more needlessly complex.

Jimmy appreciates references to late '90s Brewers and Bucks players and is the curator of the unofficial John Jaha Hall of Fame. He also enjoys running, biking and soccer, but isn't too annoying about them. He writes about sports - both mainstream and unconventional - and non-sports, including history, music, food, art and even golf (just kidding!), and welcomes reader suggestions for off-the-beaten-path story ideas.
