As the epic 2001 Milwaukee Bucks anthem unforgettably once said: "Light it up, light it up."

Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson and the rest are gone from that team, but 15 years later the Bucks and official bank sponsor BMO Harris have teamed up to illuminate the city once again. With Milwaukee’s 2016-17 NBA season starting this week – the home opener is Wednesday against Charlotte – BMO Harris Bank’s Downtown branch, at the corner of Water and Mason Streets, was displaying the Bucks’ fierce logo in its west-facing windows, apparently with green tape or paper.

The team, which changed its logo as part of a brand overhaul in 2015, adding an ‘M’ shape under the buck’s head, is hoping to take a step forward in its third season under the current ownership. Led by 21-year-olds Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker, the Bucks will strive to overcome the loss of Khris Middleton, last year’s leading scorer, to contend for a playoff spot this season. Off the court, an energetic staff continues to market the franchise’s #OwnTheFuture outlook, as a new arena and entertainment district is constructed Downtown.

According to TMJ4, local volunteers helped put up the logo display in the BMO Harris building Sunday night and it will be visible through next week. This week, the Bucks are celebrating the start of the season with a series of community events, including refurbishing public basketball courts throughout the city.

Milwaukee’s season opener is at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Hornets.

And who's gonna win it? (The Bucks, the Bucks.)

How about one more picture, full fear-the-deer glory?

Born in Milwaukee but a product of Shorewood High School (go ‘Hounds!) and Northwestern University (go ‘Cats!), Jimmy never knew the schoolboy bliss of cheering for a winning football, basketball or baseball team. So he ditched being a fan in order to cover sports professionally - occasionally objectively, always passionately. He's lived in Chicago, New York and Dallas, but now resides again in his beloved Brew City and is an ardent attacker of the notorious Milwaukee Inferiority Complex.

After interning at print publications like Birds and Blooms (official motto: "America's #1 backyard birding and gardening magazine!"), Sports Illustrated (unofficial motto: "Subscribe and save up to 90% off the cover price!") and The Dallas Morning News (a newspaper!), Jimmy worked for web outlets like CBSSports.com, where he was a Packers beat reporter, and FOX Sports Wisconsin, where he managed digital content. He's a proponent and frequent user of em dashes, parenthetical asides, descriptive appositives and, really, anything that makes his sentences longer and more needlessly complex.

Jimmy appreciates references to late '90s Brewers and Bucks players and is the curator of the unofficial John Jaha Hall of Fame. He also enjoys running, biking and soccer, but isn't too annoying about them. He writes about sports - both mainstream and unconventional - and non-sports, including history, music, food, art and even golf (just kidding!), and welcomes reader suggestions for off-the-beaten-path story ideas.
